Malawi overview
Leading independent towerco
The agriculture sector is the mainstay of Malawi’s economy and accounts for 80% of export revenues, with key exports including tobacco, tea and sugar.
It has one of the lowest levels of mobile penetration globally at 37% and given its strong population growth forecast of 3% per annum, Malawi represents a compelling market in which we can support the growth of mobile communications, which are expected to grow by 6% annually for the next five years.
We entered the market after acquiring Airtel Africa’s passive infrastructure company in March 2022 and are the only independent telecommunications infrastructure company in the market. As the two mobile operators (Airtel and TNM) look to meet the insatiable demand for mobile, we are well-positioned to support their expansion.
