MEGATECH PARTNERS HELIOS TOWERS FOR NATIONWIDE NETWORK ROLL-OUT

Nigeria’s leading Infrastructure Sharing, Co-location and Managed services provider, Helios Towers has signed  200 sites co-location deal  with Megatech Networks, a kano based CDMA operator for a nationwide network roll out.

Helios Towers makes operators more successful by providing fully managed tower sites on a lease basis, reducing capital requirement and expediting their rollout. Helios has over 1000 sites nationwide and will provide end-to-end co-location services to Megatech including maintenance, managed services, and so on.

HTN commenced commercial operations in 2006 and has demonstrated its ability to operate and compete          successfully in Nigeria. It has quickly become the leading shared infrastructure provider and the reference point for quality of service in the industry and is well positioned to remain the dominant provider of co-location       infrastructure services in Nigeria, while adapting its business models to the specific requirements of the Nigerian environment.

Megatech networks commenced operations as a fixed wireless telephony and data operator on the 3.5GHz in June 2002  and has completed  equipment installation and integration for  commercial deployment  of CDMA  Network with expected capacity of 500,000.

Megatech networks has currently installed the needed infrastructure to support effective roll-out of services on all the acquired frequencies, Such infrastructure include; the extensive   that  structure will enable the provision of Next Generation CDMA voice solution with full bouquet of mobile services, A Kano State wide Wimax network on 806. 16e protocols targeted at the high speed mobile data    customers and an extensive microwave transmission link based on the reliable and highly successful split-mount architecture.

Megatech networks , one of  the pioneer private Telephone operators in Nigeria and has 3.5 GHz frequency for the provision of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) Voice and Data Telephony Services, 5.8 GHz operational licenses for full mobile broadband solution and  2 carrier 800MHz spectrum licenses for NGN CDMA deployment in 19 states of Northern Nigeria including the federal capital territory Abuja and  National Unified Access License.

Megatech Networks hopes to continuously explore other licenses and operational spectrums acquisitions possibilities as a growth strategy, maintain     good cooperation with regulated authorities, and remain afloat with industry updates, tap from world class operators’ experiences and continually seek to further grow its business and entrench itself as a veritable force in the telecommunications marketplace.

Fazal Hussain , CEO of Helios Towers while addressing the West and Central Africa Telecom conference  delegates recently at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, where he spoke on ‘’Examining the benefits of infrastructure sharing and how to apply it successfully’’ announced the readiness of Helios Towers to partner  with wireless operators in massive network expansion. He told the audience that Helios Towers has got financial capacity to support expansion of its operation in Nigeria.

He told the delegates that infrastructure sharing provides practical means to improving a country’s competitive landscape while providing enormous opportunity to bridge the digital divide in under-developed countries especially in their far flung areas which are traditionally characterized by huge fixed, sunk and irreversible investment, often making telecommunications infrastructure investment a high risk undertaking. Furthermore, he said that sharing of existing or new sites infrastructure can promote economic efficiency, make market entrants able to compete effectively against existing infrastructure owners, offering 3G or competing broadband or mobile services and can reduce infrastructure cost and consequently the upfront investment burden.
